The 2020-2021 academic year marks my 16th year serving the community here at Finley Elementary.
The first two years, I was a Reading Intervention teacher, and the rest of the time I’ve served as a School Counselor.
Before that, I had already worked for the United Independent School District for 7 years.
I began my educational career back in 1993 as a Kinder Teacher at Perez Elementary. I worked at Perez for 5 years. One year as a Kinder Teacher, 1 ½ as a Physical Education Teacher & 2 ½ as an Elementary School Counselor.
From 1998 to 2001, I was a School Counselor at Los Obispos Middle School.
Married in 1993 to Hector H. Canales.
Mother to 2 wonderful girls. Both of them attended Finley Elementary, Trautman Middle School & United High School. The eldest daughter is presently a 3rd-year student at the University of Texas at Austin and the youngest one began her 1st year at Texas A&M, Kingsville.
With my two daughters off to college, my husband and I are officially ‘empty-nesters’; however, we do have a furry companion – our dog Italo.
I enjoy spending time with my family.
I love to travel & experience new places & cultures.
I enjoy ‘extreme’ activities.
I love to experiment with new food (no insects, though!)
I like to assist my husband with his side-business; house flipping.
